On Looking Back at Mr. Show
You're absolutely right that there is a whole other world of comedy that splitsider doesn't cover. I guess what I was trying to get at is that "alternative comedy" now means something very different in an era where weirdos and Fred are both Youtube stars compared to the period that Mr. Show was getting started in rock clubs and other "alternative" routes.

On Looking Back at Mr. Show
Love KITH, but it began in the 80's so I didn't feel like the labeled applied. check my article on the show here http://splitsider.com/2011/01/looking-back-at-kids-in-the-hall/

On Looking Back at In Living Color
You can read my take on Laugh-in at http://bit.ly/g6PYyw. That show featured plenty of dancing, but rarely was it presented as seriously as the Fly Girls were, they never even cracked a smile. That constant shifting in tone is what I'm commenting on. Also while it may have been a black show, there's nothing especially black about dancing, or trying to make suspenders and day glow overalls sexy.

On HBO vs. Showtime: Battle of the Premium Cable Comedies
I have to defend the HBO Ricky Gervais Show. I think it serves as a great introduction to the podcast, kind of a greatest hits if you will. It was helpful for me who was a bit intimated by the podcast's success. of course I'm a very visual person.
